Price a proposal

Add fees as line items, or build them from hours per phase and person, then choose the tax rate.

Who can do this: admins and managersUpdated

The Pricing step has two ways to set your fees. Both end up as line items on the proposal.

Before you start

  • You need permission to edit clients.
  • To price by effort, your team must be set up in Settings > Team, ideally with hourly rates.

Price with line items

  1. On Pricing, keep Line items selected.
  2. For each row, describe the work, then enter Qty and Rate. Amount is worked out for you.
  3. Click Add Item for more rows. Use the bin to remove one.
  4. Choose the Tax rate and check Subtotal, Tax and Total.

Price by effort

  1. On Pricing, switch to Effort-based.
  2. Click Add phase, or choose Import template phases to use the phases from one of your project templates.
  3. Enter the hours each team member will spend in each phase.
  4. Check each person's rate. It starts at their hourly cost times Markup over cost (2.5 by default). Change the markup to recalculate every rate, or edit a rate directly.
  5. Read Generated line items: one line per phase and person, plus a "Revision reserve" line using your studio's planning setting.
  6. Choose the Tax rate.

What happens next

  • When you save, the line items and totals are saved with the proposal.

Good to know

  • With effort-based pricing, only the generated line items are saved. When you reopen the proposal you'll see the line items, not the hours grid.
  • Tax rates available are 0%, 5%, 10% and 20%.
  • If you see "No team members found", invite your team first.
  • At least one line item is needed for a complete proposal.
