Delete a project

Permanently delete a project, and what is destroyed or kept when you do.

Who can do this: admins and managersUpdated

Deleting a project can't be undone. In most cases, archive it instead.

Before you start

  • Admins can delete any project.
  • The person who created a project can delete it only while it has no logged time, purchase orders or invoices.

Steps

  1. Open the project and click Settings.
  2. Open Danger zone and click Delete project. If you can't delete this project, the reason shows in its place.
  3. Read the warning in Delete Project.
  4. Type the project's name exactly, then click Delete.

What happens next

  • You return to Projects and see Project deleted.
  • These are destroyed for good: messages and channels, meetings and transcripts, drawing packages with all their file versions, and contractor actions.
  • These are kept but no longer linked to any project: tasks, procurement items, purchase orders, invoices, documents and time logs.

Good to know

  • If the project has logged time, a purchase order or an invoice, only an admin can delete it. You see a message suggesting you archive it.
  • Clients and contractors lose access to the project in their portals.
