Read the Projects report

Compare hours and fees against budget for each project and phase, and drill into a phase's time logs.

Who can do this: admins and managersUpdated

The Projects report shows where time and fees are going, project by project and phase by phase.

Steps

  1. Open Reports > Projects and choose a period. It opens on This Year.
  2. Read the figures at the top: Active Projects, Studio Total Time and, for admins and managers, Studio Total Cost.
  3. In Phase Performance, pick a project under Select project to compare actual time with budgeted time for each phase. Admins and managers can switch the metric to Cost.
  4. In Project details, read each project's Fee, Budgeted hours, Actual hours, Variance, Hours burn and, for admins and managers, Fee burn.
  5. Use Sort by or Search projects... to find a project. Click a row to show its phases.

See a phase's time logs

  1. Open a project's phases and click a phase.
  2. The phase page shows Time by user, Time by task and every time log.
  3. Filter with Filter by User or Search by task name..., and click Export for a spreadsheet.

Spot time that was edited by hand

A warning icon beside a time log means someone changed its sessions by hand. Check it before you invoice those hours.

  1. Hover over the icon, or tab to it, to open Manual edit.
  2. Read Sessions (how many were edited), Duration (how much the time changed), Billable (how many were switched), Edited by and Last edit.

The spreadsheet from Export has a Manual edit column, for example "Yes (+1h 15m)". Changed · not recorded means the edit was made before Techstyles kept the original times.

Good to know

  • Fee burn turns red at 100% or more.
  • The table lists projects of every status. Active Projects counts active ones only.
  • A phase's time logs show every log on that phase, not just the chosen period.
