Create or revoke an API key

Create a studio API key so an outside AI assistant or your own code can read your studio's data, and revoke it when it's no longer needed.

Who can do this: adminsUpdated

An API key lets a tool outside Techstyles, such as Claude, Cursor or your own script, read your studio's data. Keys can only read. They can never change anything.

Before you start

  • You need permission to edit studio settings. Admins have it by default.
  • Decide who will use the key and in which tool. A key acts as you, with your permissions.
  • You don't need access to Atelier in Techstyles to create a key. What a key can read depends on your own permissions.

Create a key

  1. Go to Settings > AI and API access.
  2. In API keys, click Create key.
  3. Enter a name, for example "Alice, Claude Desktop", and click Create key.
  4. In Your new key, click Copy key, then Done. You won't see the key again. If you lose it, revoke it and create a new one.

Revoke a key

  1. In the keys table, click Revoke on the key.
  2. In Revoke key?, confirm.

What happens next

  • A new key starts with tsk_. The table only ever shows its first few characters, with who created it and when it was Last used.
  • A revoked key stops working straight away and shows Revoked.

What a key can read

  • Projects and their status
  • FF&E items and install-date risk
  • Tasks and overdue work
  • Invoices and the finance summary, only if the key's creator can see finance
  • Team workload and logged hours (hours only, never cost)
  • Supplier lead times and recorded prices
  • The names of documents

It never shares pay rates or staff costs, individual performance, or the contents of Slack, email or documents.

Good to know

  • A key stops working if the person who created it leaves the studio or is deactivated.
  • A studio can have up to 20 active keys.
  • Keys don't expire on their own. Revoke ones you no longer use.
  • Anything a key reads is sent to the assistant you connect. Only connect tools your studio trusts.
