Link phases and add gaps between them

Make phases follow on from each other, run together or finish together, and add a set gap between them.

Who can do this: admins and managersUpdated

Linked phases move together. Change one date and every phase that depends on it updates, like links on a Gantt chart.

Before you start

  • You need permission to edit projects.
  • If Schedule shows No phases yet on a project you know has phases, do not save. Ask an admin to make the change, or to add you to the project team first.

Steps

  1. Open the project and click Settings, then Schedule.
  2. Click Edit phase on the phase you want to link.
  3. In Depends on, choose the phase before it, or Nothing to set its dates yourself.
  4. In Relation type, choose:
    • Finish → Start: starts when the previous phase ends.
    • Start → Start: starts at the same time as the previous phase.
    • Finish → Finish: ends at the same time as the previous phase.
    • No dependency: not linked.
  5. To add a gap after each linked phase, turn on Gap between phases, enter a number and choose Days or Weeks.
  6. Click Save changes.

What happens next

  • Dates cascade through every linked phase as you edit. You see the result before you save.
  • After Schedule saved, the task board, overview milestones and project health use the new dates.

Good to know

  • The gap applies to every linked phase in the project, not just one.
  • A phase can only depend on the phase directly before it.
  • The same options appear when you add phases in the new project wizard.
