Share drawings with your client or a contractor

Send an approved drawing package to your client, or issue it to a contractor, and see who has looked at it.

Drawing packages go to clients and contractors from the package itself, once the package is ready. Approving packages is covered in Approve a drawing package.

Before you start

  • You are a studio admin, or the project's lead or design lead.
  • The package is Approved or Issued.
  • Every item on its Checklist is ticked. You can tick items at any stage.
  • Every review comment on its drawings is marked done.
  • To issue to a contractor, they are on the project.

Steps

  1. Open the project and go to Drawings, then open the package.
  2. To give it to a contractor, click Issue to contractor (or Issue to more if it has been issued before) and pick the contractor.
  3. To give it to your client, click Send to client (or Re-share with all in the Access tab if it has been shared before).
  4. Open the Access tab to see who has it.

If something is missing, the buttons are greyed out and the package lists what's left under "Before sharing with the client or contractor:". The same rule applies when you share a package into Messages.

What happens next

  • Contractor: the package appears in their Drawings with version history, and they can request a revision. The package moves to Issued. They are not sent a notification, so tell them in Messages.
  • Client: every client on the project, primary and secondary, can see it in their Drawings. Each gets a "New drawing" notification and an email at their next send time.
  • The Access tab shows each person as Viewed or Not viewed.

Good to know

  • To take access away, click the × next to the person in Access. They are not told.
  • Clients and contractors keep seeing a package's current files even if you add files and the package goes back to Draft. If a package needs rework before anyone sees it, remove access first, then share again once it is approved.
  • Clients see drawings to view and download only. Contractors can also request revisions.
  • Re-share with all adds any client who doesn't have it yet, and only those clients are notified.
  • You can't send a package to one client and not another from here.
