Review a drawing and leave comments

Open a drawing full screen, mark up a PDF, and leave review comments for the team to act on.

Updated

The drawing viewer shows a drawing full screen with its review comments beside it. Every mark you leave on a PDF becomes a comment that someone ticks off once the change is made.

Before you start

  • Anyone who can open the project can read a drawing and leave comments.

Steps

  1. Open the project and click the Drawings tab.
  2. Click a package's row to list its drawings, then click the eye (View drawing) on the drawing. You can also click the drawing, then View & comment.
  3. Use the viewer's tools to comment, draw, add a box or highlight on the PDF. Each mark appears under Review comments on the right.
  4. Click the X (Close) or press Esc when you have finished. Your marks save automatically.

What happens next

  • The person who uploaded the drawing, the design lead and the project lead each get an in-app notification, unless they made the comment themselves. Several comments within 30 seconds send one notification.
  • Clicking the notification opens the drawing in the viewer.
  • The drawing and its package show how many comments are open.
  • The package can't be shared with a client or contractor until each comment is marked done. See Mark review comments as done.

Good to know

  • Review comments stay in the studio. They do not appear in the client or contractor portals.
  • Only PDFs can be marked up. Images open without the tools. Other files, such as DWG, show Download to open it.
  • If a drawing has more than one version, use the version list at the top to switch. Older versions are marked Older version — view only: you can read their comments, but new comments go on the current version.
  • Click a comment to jump to its page.
  • You can edit only your own marks. Project leads, design leads and admins can delete anyone's.
  • The Notes tab on a drawing's details is separate. Project leads, design leads and admins can add notes there, and notes do not notify anyone.
