Clip products from supplier websites

Save a product from a supplier's website to your library with the Clipper, and let Smart fill read the page for you.

Who can do this: admins and managersUpdated

The Clipper is the Techstyles extension for Google Chrome. Use it on a supplier's product page to save the product to your library, and add it to a project at the same time. Smart fill uses Techstyles AI to read the page and fill in the details. You check everything before it is saved.

Before you start

  • You are using Google Chrome with the Clipper installed, and you are signed in to Techstyles.
  • Your studio's subscription is active.
  • For Smart fill, your studio has AI credit left this month and AI is switched on.

Steps

  1. In Chrome, open the product's page on the supplier's website.
  2. Open the Clipper from Chrome's toolbar.
  3. Use Smart fill to read the page. The Clipper fills in the product's details and picks out the main product images.
  4. Check every field and correct anything that is wrong, especially prices, currency and dimensions.
  5. Choose the images to keep and which one is the main image.
  6. To add the product to a project as well, choose the project and room, and set the quantity and the date it is needed on site.
  7. Save.

What Smart fill reads

Smart fill reads the text and images on the page you have open. It fills in what it finds of:

  • name, description and product type
  • supplier, prices and currency
  • materials, dimensions, weight and boxed dimensions
  • colour, finish, size variant, fabric, pattern and grade
  • furniture details such as seat sizes, composition, construction, filling and frame
  • the main product images

It looks for the supplier among the suppliers already in your studio. If none matches, no supplier is created. Add the supplier in Techstyles, then set it on the product.

What happens next

  • The product appears at the top of your Library. Its images are copied into Techstyles, so they don't depend on the supplier's website.
  • If you chose a project and room, the item is added to that room on the project's Procurement tab, with approval Review. If Client access is on, the client is told about it.
  • If you can't edit projects, the product is still saved to the library but isn't added to the project.

Good to know

  • Smart fill doesn't fill in lead times or product codes. Add lead times on the schedule.
  • If your studio's AI credit is used up, the Clipper says This month's AI credit is used up. Add product manually, or ask your studio admin to top up. You can still fill in the fields yourself and save.
  • If your studio's subscription has lapsed, the Clipper is switched off until it is renewed.
  • Admins can see how many products the studio has clipped this period in Settings > AI usage, under Product clipping.
  • Smart fill can run up to 60 times an hour for each person.
