Connect Slack

With Slack connected, a project's channel gets its drawing comments, approvals and procurement alerts, so the team sees them where they already talk.

Before you start

• A studio admin connects the workspace. You also need permission to add apps in Slack.
• Allow pop-ups for Techstyles in your browser.

Connect your workspace

1. Go to Settings > Integrations.
2. On the Slack card, click Connect Slack.
3. Approve the Techstyles app in the Slack window.

The card shows Connected with your workspace name. Nothing is posted anywhere until you link a channel to a project.

Link a channel to a project

1. In Slack, open the project's channel.
2. Type /techstyles connect followed by the project name, for example /techstyles connect Mews House.
3. If Techstyles does not know your Slack account yet, it replies with a one-time link. Open it while signed in to Techstyles, then run the command again.

Techstyles confirms in the channel. You can also choose a project's channel from the project's own settings: see Connect a project to a Slack channel. Or link busy channels from the Slack card: choose a project under Link to a project…, or click Not this one to dismiss a suggestion.

What a linked channel receives

• Comments on drawings.
• Approvals and revision requests.
• Procurement that needs attention.
• A Monday recap of the week before.

Link your own Slack account

1. In Slack, type /techstyles link.
2. Open the link while signed in to Techstyles. It works once and lasts ten minutes.

Settings > Integrations then shows Slack account connected. Your Slack commands now act as you.

Other commands

• /techstyles status: what this channel receives.
• /techstyles disconnect: stop sending updates to this channel.
• /techstyles help: list the commands.

Disconnect Slack

1. On the Slack card, click Disconnect.
2. Confirm in Disconnect Slack?.

Updates stop straight away and every channel link is forgotten. Messages already posted stay in Slack. To use Slack again, connect and link each channel again.

Good to know

• Only studio admins can connect or disconnect the workspace. Others see "Only a studio admin can change this."
• To link a channel to a project, you need access to studio settings.
• Slack does not let apps see private channels they have not been added to, so typing the command in the channel is the most reliable way to link it. If you see "Linked, but Techstyles is not in" the channel, type /invite @Techstyles there.
• Update needed or Disconnected in Slack on the card means you need to click Reconnect.
• Techstyles posts to channels only. It does not send personal Slack messages.
