Set a target time on a task

Give a task a time estimate, get an alert when a timer passes it, and optionally stop the timer automatically.

Updated

A target time is your estimate for a task. It feeds the workload heatmap and warns you when a timer runs over.

Before you start

  • You can set the target if you can edit the task's details. Once anyone has logged time on the task, only managers and admins can change it.

Steps

  1. Open the task.
  2. Next to Target time, click Set estimate (or the current value).
  3. Enter hours and minutes, or pick a preset from 15 minutes to 2 hours.
  4. To stop timers automatically at the target, switch on Auto-stop at target.
  5. Click Set target.
  6. Click Save changes to save the task.

What happens next

  • When a running timer passes the target, you see Target reached. Click Continue to keep going or Stop timer to stop.
  • With Auto-stop at target on, the timer stops itself and the message says so. Click Got it.
  • A sound plays and, if your browser allows it, a browser notification appears.

Good to know

  • Auto-stop at target applies to all your timers in this browser, not just this task. It is not saved to your account.
  • Alerts and auto-stop only work while Techstyles is open in a browser tab.
  • The check compares the current session with the target, not your total time on the task.
  • To turn the sound off, open Settings, choose Preferences under Account, and switch off Timer sound.
  • Clear removes the target.
