Set capacity rules
Decide how many days a week each role spends on a project in each stage, and set a project's scale, reviews and pipeline status.
Rules turn your project stages into days of work for each person. Studio defaults apply to every project; a project can override them.
Before you start
- Admins and managers can change rules. To mark a project as pipeline, you also need permission to edit projects.
Change the studio defaults
- Go to Settings > Capacity and click Rules.
- In Rules for, choose Studio defaults.
- Rules are grouped by stage. For each, set who it applies to, the kind of work, the days a week (0–7), and whether it follows the project's scale (× scale). Switch On off to pause a rule.
- To ease in or out, click Add a taper and set the days for the first weeks.
The kinds of work are Stage work, Lead time, Weekly review and Away on project. Who can be the Design lead, the Project lead, Other people on the project, Technical people, Procurement people, or a named person.
Add a rule
Removing a rule takes effect straight away, with no confirmation or undo. Reset studio defaults replaces every studio rule with the Techstyles defaults, and your own studio rules are lost.
- Click Add a rule.
- Choose the kind, stage, who, days a week and whether it follows the scale.
- Click Add.
Set options for one project
- In Rules for, choose the project.
- Under This project, set:
- Project scale: 1.3 makes a large project's design stages 30% heavier.
- Weekly reviews: one review line a week for the design lead while the project is active.
- Pipeline: the project is not won yet. It is left out of the plan, and you can try it in What if….
- Likelihood: for your own reference. It does not change the numbers.
- Add rules below to override the studio defaults for this project. Set days to 0 to switch a studio rule off for it.
What happens next
- Each change saves straight away and the plan recalculates.
