Try a what-if for a new project

See who a pipeline project would stretch if it started in a given week, find the best start, and apply it to the real plan.

Who can do this: admins and managersUpdated

A what-if shows what would happen if a project you have not won yet started in a particular week. Nothing changes unless you apply it.

Before you start

  • The project must be marked Pipeline in capacity settings. See Set capacity rules.
  • To apply a what-if, you also need permission to edit projects.

Try a scenario

  1. On Capacity, click What if….
  2. Choose a Pipeline project.
  3. Choose a Start week. The current one is marked "current plan".
  4. To let Techstyles find the quietest start, tick Find the best week.
  5. Click Show scenario.

The banner shows the project's peak load, the best start week and each person it stretches, before and after. Changed cells are outlined, and Where it breaks shows the findings with the scenario. Click Try and the week name to switch to the best week, or Discard to drop the scenario.

Apply it to the real plan

  1. With the scenario on screen, click Apply.
  2. Confirm that you want to move its dates.

What happens next

  • The project's real dates move by whole weeks: its unfinished phases, trips and installs, start, end and installation dates, open tasks and bookings.
  • A message says when the project now starts and what moved, with Undo.
  • Include pipeline turns on so the project stays counted on the grid.

Good to know

  • Undo is only offered for about 15 seconds. After that, move the project back with a new what-if.
  • Finished phases and done tasks do not move.
  • If nothing could be moved, you see "Could not apply the scenario. Nothing was changed."
