Invite a client to their portal

Send your client an email with their sign-in details so they can approve pieces, see invoices and message you.

Who can do this: admins and managersUpdated

Inviting a client gives them their own sign-in to the client portal for this project. You can also tick Send [client name] a portal invitation once created in the last step of the new project wizard.

Before you start

  • The project has a primary client with an email address. Secondary clients, such as a partner, can be invited the same way.
  • Any client you have just added is saved. Until you click Save changes, the card reads "Save changes to enable portal actions".

Steps

  1. Open the project and go to Settings, then People, then Clients.
  2. On the client's card, click Invite. For the primary client you can also click Invite client to onboard at the top right.
  3. Check the Invitation message preview.
  4. Click Send invitation.

If it doesn't work

See An invitation email hasn't arrived or My client can't log in. Inviting again doesn't give a client a new password.

What happens next

  • A first-time client gets "Your [studio name] client portal" with their email, a new password and an Open your portal button.
  • A client who already has a portal sign-in, for example from another project, gets "You have been added to [project name]" instead. It has no password: they use their existing one.
  • The card's status changes from Not invited to Invited, then to Joined once the client opens this project.

Good to know

  • Clients can't change their password inside the portal. If they want their own, or forget it, they use Forgot your password? on the sign-in page.
  • The client only sees sections you have switched on. Show procurement is off by default. See Choose what the portals show.
  • Removing a secondary client and clicking Save changes removes their portal access to this project.
