Add markup or hide prices

What prices clients and trades see, why Techstyles doesn't add a markup, and what you can do instead.

Who can do this: admins and managersUpdated

Techstyles doesn't add a markup to prices, and there is no switch to hide prices from a client. Read this before you turn on Client access.

What your client sees

Once you share the schedule, your client sees for each item on their Procurement page:

  • a unit price and line total, with totals at the top. The price is the product's Trade Price if it has one, otherwise its Regular Price, less any supplier discount on the line;
  • in the product details, the regular price and the supplier link;
  • the supplier's name.

What a contractor sees

A card shared into Messages shows the item's total price. See Share schedule items with a contractor.

There is no markup setting that changes prices

A project's Settings > Financial has a Default markup field. It saves, but today nothing uses it: it doesn't change any price your client sees, or any invoice.

What you can do instead

Charge a percentage on invoices

Set an FF&E rate on the project in Settings > Financial. Each new invoice adds it as its own line, worked out on the net goods. See Add VAT to invoices: rates, FF&E fees and currency. Your client can see this line.

Bill your own price

On a draft invoice, click Edit and change each line's Unit price. See Edit an invoice. The schedule in the portal still shows the price above, so your client can compare the two.

Show your client the retail price

Leave Trade Price empty on the product and enter only the Regular Price. Your client then sees the regular price. So do your schedule and any purchase order raised from it, so you need to edit the purchase order to pay the right amount.

Keep prices out of the portal for now

Leave Client access off until you've checked the schedule. While it's off, your client can't see any items, but they can't approve them in the portal either. Record decisions yourself: see See and record a client's decision on an item.

Exports contain your trade prices

The schedule export includes supplier names and trade prices. Check it before you send it to anyone outside the studio.
